Personal Enhancement

In addition to academic enhancement services, the Counseling Department offers a number of resources and programs dedicated to the personal enhancement of Rockhurst students. In the spirit of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the goal is always personal development of a student’s full potential, an integral part of service and social change, based on the belief that every human being is worthy of dignity and respect.  These include behavioral health, support groups and child abuse reporting.


Health & Wellness Resources

At Rockhurst, student success depends on the right balance of academic skills, good health, and physical and mental fitness, along with his continuing faith-formation. We understand that the high school years can be among the most challenging periods in anyone’s life. To help students perform at their best, the Counseling Department provides or collaborates with a number of resources that support student physical and emotional health and their making of inform decisions that promote their own well-being, and that of others.  Such Health and Wellness areas that more directly include the counselors are the following:

Standardized Testing

Throughout a student’s four years at Rockhurst — and even before — standardized testing is a fact of life, one the Counseling Department strives to help every Rockhurst student embrace. It’s no accident that the average test scores for Rockhurst students are among the highest of any Kansas City-area high school. From preparation to coordination, we make available a number of resources and a regimen that helps students maximize their test scores and college qualifications.

In order for a student to be considered for accommodations, results of diagnostic testing must be presented to Scott Reagan, Academic Services Director.  The completed diagnostic consists of the following:

List of 7 items.

  • Statement of specific disability and how it affects the student: This diagnosis must be current within three years

  • Disability code as specified in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSMIV) is preferred

  • Relevant educational, developmental, and medical history

  • Description of the comprehensive testing and techniques used to arrive at the diagnosis

  • Description of functional limitations supported by the test results

  • Description of the specific accommodations requested

  • Professional credentials of the evaluator, including information about license or certification and areas of specialty
